The Astroglides January 13, 2000 Tel Aviv Label: Atsroglides CD-R Live  The Astroglides are something like an inverted Planet Seven, but where P7 uses extra crunchy percussive chop, these guys use extreme wailing nastiness born of throatcore. The instrumentals are fast, semi-melodic, dark, and quite nearly insane. This CD-R comes from the audio of a camcorder, so it's really crude. As an early glimpse at a new band, this is totally enticing. A few hours in a decent studio under the hands of a decent producer, and this band would rule the punk side of the surf genre. There are four vocals here too, including "When I Sat On A Bottle," just the thought of which is enough to bring forth the percussive chop and lacerating sound of this intense number. The throatcore vocals over the fuzz and theremin are anything but tame. "Is Bomba Looking For A Snorkel?" is another throatcore monster, about as evil as they come. The title is great. "Old Women" is an anthemic pummeling of the antiquarian others... I have no idea of the lyrics, but the vocal style doesn't suggest reverence. Neil Hefty certainly didn't expect this sort of thing. Nearly every other cover of the theme from the TV show is silly or playful, or dry witted at best. This is hugely nasty, with that maniacal theremin and the throatcore chorus. Too much!

Ultra heavy surf grind, with a solid double picked lead, reverbed and strong over an intense feedback howl, from what sounds like a wailing theremin. Strong drums and bass, and an overall evil texture. This would be a great track if well recorded in a studio.

"Eli" is a very dramatic number, with a big drive and mind bending wail. It's hard to imagine surf this dark, but here it is. Charge with power and drive.

Yikes... nasty tones, thrashing speed, howling wails, and interruptive screams of throaty anger. This is a desert war at machine gun speed, and fought against aliens of other words.

Non melodic, dark assaultive and powered with mean doubled picked guitar over insane wailing theremin. It invokes images of insane asylum surf rides around Aldebaran, with the white coats in hot pursuit. Very hostile.

Dark surfcore, evil progressions and disturbing theremin wails. Very heavy and warlike. If this is what a "Sewerpipe Ride" feels like... well, who would want to. Damn mean.

Raging drums and flying double picked low-E guitar deliver an image of disaster... a melodic all be it evil riff and just plain impaling speed... man-oh-man.
