The Astroglides January 13, 2000 Tel Aviv Label: Atsroglides CD-R LiveThe Astroglides are something like an inverted Planet Seven, but where P7 uses extra crunchy percussive chop, these guys use extreme wailing nastiness born of throatcore. The instrumentals are fast, semi-melodic, dark, and quite nearly insane. This CD-R comes from the audio of a camcorder, so it's really crude. As an early glimpse at a new band, this is totally enticing. A few hours in a decent studio under the hands of a decent producer, and this band would rule the punk side of the surf genre.
There are four vocals here too, including "When I Sat On A Bottle," just the thought of which is enough to bring forth the percussive chop and lacerating sound of this intense number. The throatcore vocals over the fuzz and theremin are anything but tame. "Is Bomba Looking For A Snorkel?" is another throatcore monster, about as evil as they come. The title is great. "Old Women" is an anthemic pummeling of the antiquarian others... I have no idea of the lyrics, but the vocal style doesn't suggest reverence.
